The longest-running Oktoberfest in the US
Helen's Oktoberfest runs for roughly two months, starting in September and continuing through the first weekend of November — far longer than the Munich original. The heart of it is the Festhalle, where Bavarian bands play and the dance floor rarely empties.
Tickets and hours
Admission to the Festhalle is ticketed, with different pricing for weeknights and weekends and separate late-night sessions. Buy weekend tickets in advance; they sell out during peak leaf season.
Food and drink
Expect bratwurst, schnitzel, pretzels, potato pancakes and imported German beer by the liter. Non-drinkers and kids are welcome during daytime hours.
Crowd and lodging strategy
October weekends combine Oktoberfest with peak fall color, which is the busiest possible time in Helen. If you can, go on a Thursday, and book lodging six months ahead.
What to wear
Dirndls and lederhosen are common and enthusiastically encouraged, but jeans are perfectly fine. Bring a jacket — nights get cold quickly in the mountains.
