Friday: arrive and settle in
Aim to arrive by 4pm. Check in, walk the village while the shops are still open, and have an early German dinner before the evening rush.
Saturday: the big day
Hike early, float or taste in the afternoon, drive the scenic highway at golden hour, and finish with live music. Saturday is the busiest day in town, so front-load anything popular before 11am.
Sunday: soft landing
Breakfast, one last activity close to your lodging, souvenirs and out by early afternoon to beat traffic back toward Atlanta.
Practical notes
Helen is about 90 minutes from Gainesville and roughly two hours from Atlanta. Parking downtown is paid and fills by late morning on peak weekends. Cell service is spotty on mountain roads — download maps before you go.
